How to legalise a document
The Hague Apostille
Public documents issued in the UK which need to be legalised for use in Portugal are covered by the 1961 Hague Convention which abolished the requirement for legalisation of public documents and to which Portugal became a signatory in 1968.British Consulates in Portugal can forward to London the original British certificate which needs the Apostille. A fee is payable for this service - see our Consular fees table.

Please ensure that registered post is used to and from the UK Educational documents no longer need to have the Apostille affixed, but please check with the relevant authority.
