History of bilateral relations
Welcome to our page about the history of bilateral UK/Portuguese relations, which spans over more than 600 years. It is something unique in history. That two nations should be in complete and everlasting agreement would be contrary to nature: that allies should never have differences would also be an unreasonable expectation. Nevertheless, there is in existence a relationship between Portugal and England which amounts in effect to the longest standing alliance which the world has known. The first formal treaty between the two countries was concluded in 16 June 1371. In this section you can find interesting facts and important historical landmarks about the historical relations between both countries.
